Digi International Selects Altair-Based Telit Module to Power New Cellular IoT Modem

Leading IoT Provider Harnesses Altair’s Ultra-Low Power and Reduced Size Chipset for First LTE CAT-1 Single Mode Embedded Modem

Hod Hasharon, Israel – January 5, 2017 – Altair Semiconductor, a leading provider of LTE chipsets, today announced that its CAT-1 LTE single mode chipset that powers Telit LE866 IoT module, has been selected by Digi International, Inc. (Digi), provider of M2M communications and technology solutions, for its latest Digi XBee® Cellular LTE CAT-1 embedded modem.

Certified by Verizon Wireless, Digi XBee® Cellular LTE CAT-1 embedded modem enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to quickly and easily integrate 4G cellular technology into devices and applications. Based on its well-known XBee® footprint, which supports multiple short and long-range wireless protocols, the XBC-V1-UT-001, is Digi’s first LTE CAT-1 single-mode modem, paving the way for additional Digi XBee modems in 2017 that will leverage new LTE Cat M1 and NB1 technologies.

“Altair is an industry leader in CAT-1 cellular IoT connectivity,” said Terry Schneider, Vice President of Product Management for Digi International. “We chose to design a cellular solution based on Altair’s chipset as it offers unparalleled low power consumption and cost efficiency, while its reduced size enables us to provide the market’s smallest, end-device certified embedded cellular modem.”

Altair’s ALT-1160 CAT-1 chipset is designed specifically for IoT and M2M applications, such as wearables, vehicle telematics, smart meters and security applications. It features best-in-class power consumption, enabling battery life in excess of 10 years under specific use case conditions, and offers unique features such as enhanced security and a customizable application layer.

“We are delighted to be working with market leaders such as Digi International, and Telit to provide low-powered and cost efficient IoT solutions,” said Eran Eshed, Co-founder and VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Altair. “Our proven experience in providing optimized LTE technology that meets our customer’s technical and economic needs is accelerating Altair’s global growth.”

“Ultra-small modems that support the lower LTE categories are paramount for many IoT applications, including wearables, smart metering, fleet management, point-of-sale and a variety of connected-life use cases,” said Dennis Kelly, Vice President of Telit Sales Americas. “Designed to deliver the smallest possible footprint, the Telit CAT-1 LE866 is another example of our commitment to deliver the most comprehensive module portfolio that can quickly and efficiently enable a myriad of IoT possibilities for our partners.”
